Cahn's Axiom

I'm here, I'm here, don't abandon me!

Sorry, I had to go to my Aunt's house for the weekend for a family event, then she and my mother left for a trip and I'm house-sitting her cats. Not a big deal, but it does throw off everything and I didn't have time for the weekend, then yesterday was a bad head day. Migraines are no fun, even if mine aren't nearly as bad as some people's.

So, for today.

Cahn's Axiom, also known as Allen's Axiom

When all else fails, read the instructions.

I'm pretty sure you had 8 different memories of when this happened pop into your mind, so think about it, probably laugh at at least one of them, then remember this to use the next time you, or someone else, is in a situation that could use it.

I, obviously, have never needed it because I either read the instructions first or figure it out without them...probably by sheer stubbornness and accepting a bad job as good enough.

Curl Crested Aracari

This pic is from Fauna Focus, link below. Do you need more explanation for why I find this bird so very interesting?

Ok, maybe you do.

Firstly, some birds do get curly feathers. The Curl Crested Aracari is the only known curly Toucan. If you couldn't figure the Toucan part out from the beak, please take a moment to wonder how you missed it. Or two, because it's a pretty big beak.

Secondly, Aracari. I love that as a name. I think it'll be a great name to teach kids to annoy their parents with, and to try to pronounce when drunk.

Oregon Zoo, link below.

Either way, this is a cool bird.

Unfortunately, these guys are pretty common in the Amazon Rainforest and don't have a lot of unique things to their names aside from their curly feathers. They're  one of the smaller toucans but the second largest of their family group, the Aracaris. They're quieter than others of their family, but not silent. They have pretty much the same diet as other toucans, and a lot of the same habits. They're pretty normal birds, unless you're really interested in birds.

Well, aside from their curly feathers.

Ebird, Link below.

Please go google them and look at the pictures. There are a lot of awesome ones.

Not gonna lie, I wish I could get one. My herd of cats suggests that this is a bad idea though. (For pictures of them, here's my cat-page on BlueSky.)

Seeya again soon.

Another Apology and a late Pride Month story

Ok, I wasn't expecting this big of a break again. I'm sorry, and I'm going to try to get back to actually remembering to do this. It's just been a bit of a mess between being busy and just having no energy for anything.

I'm going to do better though. You deserve it, even if I don't actually have any readers yet for things.

Now, something fun.

Normally, I'd save this for Pride Month, but I was recently faced with the argument again about Gay people being a new thing, a fad, so I just kinda wanted to share this one now.

Alan Turing, widely considered the father of computers and modern computer science, hand-wrote a six page story called Pryce's Buoy, about a gay romance.

The man was known for being social oblivious, cold, logical, and pretty introverted, but he wrote an entire fantasy of a gay romance story rather obviously based on who he wishes he was.

So, basically, we wouldn't have computers if not for a gay man. You really want to reject all things homosexual? Get rid of your computers. You could consider them a byproduct of a sinful man.

Husband Calling Contest

Hi. Just got informed of the existence of this and it should surprise absolutely no one that I feel the need to post about it immediately. ...
